Full Moon in Gemini: 19 Dec 2021
We have a full moon tonight in Gemini, becoming exact at 4.35am UK time tomorrow morning. And Jupiter, in Aquarius, is making a favourable trine aspect to the Moon (and sextile aspect to the Sun). The moon is also inconjunct to the Venus-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn, with Venus turning retrograde right around the time of the full moon.
Faith & Doubt
There is an inevitable tension over this full moon between faith and scepticism. For Sagittarius it is all about what is ethically right and true, it is the fiery conviction of knowing the truth, or believing we do, and pursuing that with zealous enthusiasm. For Gemini, the sceptic, on the other hand, there is a need to enquire and question things, to take into account the many viewpoints from which truth may be regarded and the many stories that can be spun around that. There is a spectrum here from the single minded Sagittarian "trust me, I know what I'm doing, and it's for the good", to the Geminian "well, how can I trust you? where's the evidence?" And with this full moon in Gemini, there is a crisis of faith, and whichever truth you hold to, there is a pressing need to enquire further, and question the assumptions that may blind us to what is really going on.
Getting a Proper Perspective on Things
The Sagittarian part in each of us wants to look beyond the current situation, and trust that better days are ahead. This is encouraged by the harmonious Jupiter aspects - so we may sense a stronger than usual propensity for hope and optimism, depsite the fear and instability around us, an underlying belief that things will come good in the end. The key here is the establishment of a proper perspective, for both of these signs can misjudge the size of things. Sagittarius can overestimate what is possible and make wild exaggerated claims, whilst underestimating the impact that clumsy or mis-informed actions can have on others. Gemini, on the other hand, can become overwhelmed with data and fail to see the wood for the trees. An open dialogue is crucial here, where both the intuitive and the inquisitive approaches are admitted; one that allows that Geminian talent for information gathering to support and benefit from the visionary energy and directional thrust that Sagittarius is famous for.
Venus Retrograde Station, Conjunct Pluto
The other major theme over this full moon is the Venus retrograde station, which is in exact conjunction to Pluto in Capricorn, a conjunction which normally passes in a couple of days, but on this occasion remains with us for two weeks. This suggests an espcially intense time for relationships, a deep dive into the shadow of love, and a need for deep inner reflection on what really matters and is of value to us. It may represent a crisis of trust, culminating over this full moon, with the Moon making an uncomfortable inconjunct aspect to the Venus-Pluto conjunction. We long to know the truth, and may become suspicious of others' intentions during this time, due to misunderstandings and unclear communications.
Deep Listening in Times of Mistrust
We must stay present and alert over this period to our own projections, and not shut down connections or project our fears onto others unnecessarily, not succomb to the atmosphere of mistrust that is so prevalent in our world at the moment. The important thing to stay with, and to nurture, is our capacity to see the good in each other, to listen deeply to another's concerns, to practice kindness and compassion, to reflect on our own nature and remember that we are all broken, wounded, vulnerable right now, that we are all on a journey of recovery to find wholeness and meaning.
What Lasts in Love
The Venus retrograde period lasts 40 days which includes a conjunction with the Sun, when Venus reaches her closest approach to the earth, on 9th January. A lot of things get called to account now with Venus spending an extended amount of time in Capricorn, Saturn's sign, where she is primarily concerned with what lasts in love and what is sustainable through difficulty and challenges. It may feel like an initiation even. We have to go back over old ground in our relationships during a Venus retrograde period, heal the wounds of the past, confront old patterns of relating from the past that still trip us up in the present, dive deeper into the true meaning of love.
