Get ready for the Venus-Mars Conjunction!

There is a fascinating cosmic drama unfolding in the sky at the moment between the two great lovers from myth, Venus & Mars. Venus, still in her shadow phase, is very slowly gathering momentum since turning direct, and Mars currently moving slightly faster than her through the zodiac, comes to meet her next week and make conjunction in Capricorn on the day of the full moon (16 Feb).

As Venus gradually gains pace, they will travel together at roughly the same speed until the second week of March (being precisely conjunct again in Aquarius on 6th March) remaining within the same degree for almost an entire month. A Venus-Mars conjunction only normally lasts for a couple of days, so this is quite a remarkable phenomenon. Venus, goddess of love, archetype of beauty, balance, relatedness and sensuous pleasure united with the war god Mars, archetype of sexual energy, passion, drive and penetration. It's an earthy, lusty, and pragmatic encounter, being in Capricorn, where Mars is strong.

In this famous depiction from myth by Jacques-Louis David, Mars has just returned from battle and Venus disarms him, cleans him up, ‘takes the war out of him’, before admitting him to her chamber. It will be interesting to see how this union of the archetypal lovers plays out, both in the world and in our personal lives, over these next few weeks, as passions run high - can warring appetites be tempered, differences reconciled, love restored?

You will be able to witness this conjunction throughout the next month in the pre-dawn sky.
